La Grange University Preschool is a program that is designed to meet the social academic, physical and creative needs of children ages 2 to 5 years. Using play-based learning, children will learn through social interactions with their peers as well as fun and exciting craft activities. With the goal of preparing children for Kindergarten, children will work with shapes, numbers, colors, and basic reading and writing skills.

Philosophy

La Grange University is a Park District preschool program that is designed to meet the social, academic, and creative needs of children ages 2.5 to 5 years old. La Grange U is a play-based preschool program, centered around the idea that children learn best through play and social interactions. Our program gives children the comfortable space they need to explore, create, problem-solve, and so much more.
La Grange U families can expect their children to play with their peers, complete daily crafts, and learn through teacher-led activities based around Illinois Early Learning Standards. Focusing primarily on letters, numbers, shapes, colors, and basic reading & writing skills, our teacher-led activities help children prepare for kindergarten.
With the combination of academics and our play-based learning model, La Grange University creates a warm and inviting preschool space for children to grow and develop socially, academically, and personally.
Goals
At La Grange University, our primary goals are to ensure that children are exposed to reading readiness skills, letters, numbers, shapes, and colors, as well as ensuring that children are learning through socialization and play. To see these goals accomplished, our program has the following objectives for children:

  • Develop a sense of security in group settings
  • Develop respect for others
  • Establish routines, patterns, and sharing behavior
  • Learn problem-solving skills
  • Learn correct use of materials and equipment, while being responsible and                    showing respect
  • Explore the surrounding environment
  • Create a fun, happy and safe environment for all participants

A child’s first social experience should be positive and enjoyable. At La Grange University Preschool, we provide a happy and safe place for these first experiences to begin. To help us accomplish these goals and objectives, children will have a variety of toys, materials, and play areas to choose from.
